Australian Cancer Plan Submission
In March 2022, LUCAP submitted a paper to Cancer Australia's call for submissions to assist in the development of a 10-year national cancer plan.
In February 2022, LUCAP researchers were featured in a podcast about the need for a national clinical quality registry for lung cancer published by our partners Thoracic Oncology Group Australasia. You can listen to the podcast here.
In 2021, LUCAP researchers conducted a national survey which aimed to identify institutions treating patients with lung cancer across Australia, and understand the available infrastructure support and multidisciplinary care. The survey received responses from 79 separate institutions, representing 72% of all known institutions treating lung cancer in Australia. Survey results highlighted widespread deficiencies in both staffing at multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings - less than half of the responding institutions reported to have a specialist lung cancer nurse at MDT - and access to critical diagnostics and treatment modalities - with almost one quarter (23%) reported having no access to thoracic surgery at MDT. Read more about the survey results and analysis in our article published in the BMJ Open Respiratory Research journal.
